Duovir contains a two-drug combination of lamivudine (150 mg) and zidovudine (300 mg), both belonging to the NRTI class. It is used as a core component of combination antiretroviral therapy (cART) to control HIV-1 infection. By blocking the HIV reverse transcriptase enzyme, it terminates the viral DNA chain, halting replication and helping to rebuild the immune system. This helps reduce the risk of secondary opportunistic infections. Each pack contains 60 tablets. Patients require standard medical follow-ups to evaluate blood counts, liver parameters, and to manage risks like lactic acidosis or lipoatrophy.
