INLYTA® (axitinib) 5 mg, manufactured by Pfizer, is a potent oral tyrosine kinase inhibitor supplied in film-coated tablets. It is indicated for the treatment of advanced renal cell carcinoma (RCC), the most common type of kidney cancer, after the failure of one prior systemic therapy. As an anti-angiogenesis agent, Axitinib works by targeting and blocking vascular endothelial growth factor receptors (VEGFR-1, -2, and -3). This inhibition suppresses the formation of new blood vessels needed by tumors to grow and spread. Precise dosing, administered orally twice daily, must be continuously monitored by an oncologist for potential adverse effects like hypertension or fatigue.
